Sir Garfield Sobers' 80th Birthday Celebration
80th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AT LORD’S CRICKET GROUND, LONDON

Lord’s is the home of cricket, so where better to honour the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers on his 80th birthday? The unique, sold-out event was coordinated between the Barbados High Commission and Marylebone Cricket Club.
The themed banquet was attended by 200 people, including members of the 1966 England and West Indies test teams. Along with other special touches to honour to Sir Garry, a rum punch and steel pan reception was held on the outfield, breaching for the first time this exclusive preserve of cricketers.
In the grandeur of a candlelit Long Room, guests heard a speech from Sir Wes Hall to his captain and lifelong friend, and a response by Sir Garry. The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland, Commonwealth Secretary General, raised the toast to Barbados and High Commissioner Guy Hewitt gave the vote of thanks.
